Poppy

Sometimes you have flowers that keep yelling: make a picture! This poppy is one of those, a beautifully shaped explosion of color.

Details of fall

Each season has its own beauty, but autumn certainly has many. Mushrooms are one of them, as this series of macro shots hopefully shows.

Prepare for landing!

As regular visitors of my site know, I very much like macro photography. As with sports, also in photography you sometimes go for the challenges. Freezing the motion of bees which are landing on a flower, is quite such a challenge. These insects are much too fast to follow with your lens, so you have to find another way to freeze them. What worked for me was focus on a particular flower and start shooting when they fly in your viewfinder. And yet, very often there is nothing to see on the display at the back of the camera. Nevertheless, with some patience, sometimes it works!

Colorful macro … of what?

Let me share some experementational work with you: colorful macro work. The images below were quite fun to produce, and inspired by a lesson of Bill Fortney at Kelby Training. When thinking of macro photography, one almost instantly thinks of flowers and insects. But there is more. Why not making use of a simple piece of kitchen equipment, a grater, available in every household. Some piece of cloth and a little bit of light lead to the following results.

I have just acquired a new macro-lens, which is astonishingly sharp. These are very tiny flowers in our own garden, so see for yourself.
