Madrid at night

When the night falls, some spots in Madrid are changing into a kind of fairy tale scenery. This first image is made at the Plaza de Cibeles, a square with a neo-classical complex of marble sculptures with fountains that has become an iconic symbol for the city of Madrid.

Venice by night

Night in Venice is quite special. All the canals, boats floating around, leaving traces of light when using long shutter speeds with your camera.

The Hague in winter

The Dutch Prime Minister resides in a very, very small office in The Hague. I reckon it must be worlds smallest executive office. However, the location compensates the size as the Prime Minister is overlooking the waters of the Hofvijver from his octagonal turret. The office is called Torentje (Little Tower), almost 700 years old. This years winter provided me with unique opportunities to make pictures of the Torentje and its location. Most of the images were shot using HDR (meaning that each image is being put together from seven differently exposed shots).

Lions fight

On one of the old versions of this website, there was a page with the title „Lions Fight”. Even today there are still people visiting that page. Reason for me now to incorporate this topic in this blog. Quite some time ago, in 2005, I was on safari in the South African Kruger Park. We then experienced the probably most spectacular event of our lives: two groups of lions fighting for a dead giraffe. I took some pictures (with my first SLR-camera, I now wish I had had the one I have now), but my then thirteen year old daughter managed to make a short movie with a small point and shoot camera (in our car there was a man with a high quality video camera. Just five minutes before the thrilling lions fight, he ran out of power … lesson for everybody, always carry enough spare batteries!). The movie was put on YouTube, and is now approaching a milestone: almost 100.000 views. This is the movie, when you click on „read more”, you’ll see the pictures.

Eagle

My sons friend has always been intrigued by hunting with birds. He was now hosting a special species: an eagle. I took the opportunity to portrait that giant bird (wings ranging to two meters!).
See for yourself what is strange about the first image?

Colorful macro … of what?

Let me share some experementational work with you: colorful macro work. The images below were quite fun to produce, and inspired by a lesson of Bill Fortney at Kelby Training. When thinking of macro photography, one almost instantly thinks of flowers and insects. But there is more. Why not making use of a simple piece of kitchen equipment, a grater, available in every household. Some piece of cloth and a little bit of light lead to the following results.
